The show starts with the build.

How to specify outdoor concert LED screens for daylight, cameras, wind, weather, touring speed and safe rigging.

Stage P2.6–P4.8 covers most concert sightlines; structural engineering, daylight brightness and repeatable build mechanics decide the actual system.

01

Size for the last useful sightline

The centre wall creates scale; IMAG screens carry faces. Calculate image height from viewing distance and camera framing before choosing cabinet quantity. A finer pitch does not rescue a screen that is physically too small for the field.

Daylight output should be specified as an operating level with thermal conditions attached. Once darkness arrives, the wall must dim dramatically to keep black levels, cameras and neighbours under control.

02

Every saved movement becomes crew time

Touring systems earn their keep through repeatability. Cabinet mass, handles, quarter-turn locks, curve detents, cable direction and the ability to swap a module during a short changeover all affect the real cost of a run.

Standardise cases, spares and cable looms around the deployment sequence. The best cabinet is the one the crew can still assemble correctly on date twenty-two.

03

The screen is not the structure

Wind loading, ballast, ground conditions, flown loads and emergency lowering are engineering decisions for the specific site. Product certification supports that process; it does not replace it.

Questions before specification

The useful answers.

How bright should an outdoor concert screen be?

A service level around 4,000 to 6,000 nits is a common starting point for daylight shows. It should be ambient-controlled and substantially dimmer after sunset.

What pixel pitch is used for concerts?

P2.6 to P4.8 is common because audience distance is greater than in indoor rooms. Screen size and camera use matter as much as pitch.

Can outdoor LED operate in rain?

Properly rated equipment can, but connectors, rear faces, drainage, structure and safe electrical distribution must all be designed for the conditions.
